I know how hard it is to ask for help. That’s why I have a deep respect for the courage it takes to reach out. I believe that empathy is the foundation of healing. We all need to feel safe and understood.

Knowledge
Beyond empathy, I have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. As a psychologist, I am committed to staying up-to-date on the latest research and evidence-based practices.

Experience
My expertise extends beyond books and into actual face-to-face experience with people. I have been providing mental health and psychological services for over 10 years. That’s why I understand that each person is unique and requires a personalized approach. No cookie-cutter solutions here.

Background

I have a diverse range of clinical experience from some of the most respected institutions in the region. I provided mental health services and psychological evaluations at the University of California Medical Center and UCI Medical School Department of Psychiatry. At Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), I worked under some of the top pediatric neuropsychologists in the country, providing neuropsychological evaluations to patients struggling with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

During my pre-doctoral residency at the Chicago Area Christian Training Consortium, I spent half of my time providing therapy for people from diverse communities in Chicago. I also provided psychological evaluations for people struggling with learning disorders and attention difficulties.

I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology and Marriage & Family Therapy, where I provided therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues to members of the community. I also conducted psychological assessments and testing for pre-ordination evaluations, adoption evaluations, and psychodiagnostic evaluations.

After completing my fellowship, I continued on at Fuller as a Clinical Supervisor and Assistant Clinical Professor, where I continued to provide psychological services as well as teach and train future psychologists and marriage and family therapists.

Before entering into psychology, I worked as a graphic designer, film/video editor, and media artist. I was also on staff as a media arts director at a church, all which continue to influence my passion for listening to people’s stories and helping to bring out beauty from pain.

Aside from psychology, I enjoy watching TV shows, listening to music, taking photos, and playing the air drums since my drum set is too loud for my wife and son. I also spend much of my free time with my wife and son, who are a great source of joy for me. I think they like me as well.

Podcast Interview

If you’d like to get a sense of my personality, check out this episode of The Testing Psychologist Podcast, where Dr. Jeremy Sharp interviewed me about clergy ordination evaluations. It’s a bit technical, but I talk about how I approach the people I work with, especially as it relates to culture and spirituality.
